It happens twice a week, and costs just over £8 - the food is really nice but nothing too special.įormal hall is available five nights a week - no dress code (wear what you like!) except for Thursdays which are suit + tie (or equivalent) plus gown. The atmosphere for formals is great - they black out the windows and serve a three-course meal by candlelight. The quality of food at Harris Manchester is of pretty high standard, and the college chef is a previous winner of the Oxford Chef of the Year award!
There also is an annual charter dinner, garden party dinner, christmas dinner, freshers' welcome dinner, plus one or to special (not necessarily annual) dinner events. It usually costs around £5-10, and the atmosphere is great, especially during special events like Halloween hall, or Chinese New Year.ĭuring term time, there are two Formal Guest Nights per week.
We have formal hall usually three times a week. It's about £25 a head, but its also basically Michelin star food, so definitely worth doing at least once!įormal hall takes place on Friday and Sunday, costing £10-15, and the atmosphere is usually really good. These are four courses, and you get to invite a guest. We also have ''guest dinners' which are twice a term and in high demand so there's a ballot. But it's not a big deal like at other colleges, you have to wear your gown, but you can go in trackies! Sometimes its just nice to go to a slightly later sitting for dinner. It's a bit different at Christ Church, because we have a formal sitting every night (about £2.25). Special dinners tend to be really popular and sell out almost immediately.
